Simba Circle

Empowering boys for a brighter future

The Simba Circle program aims to support boys by curbing drug and substance abuse, joining organised criminal gangs and improving their attitudes toward positive behaviour. It emphasizes the role of education in improving their lives.

Initially, the community struggled to keep boys in school due to these challenges but there have been observable shifts since the program’s inception with its focus on engaging boys through life skills sessions.

Retention rates have increased by 60%, meaning for every 10 boys who previously struggled to stay in school, 6 are now successfully completing their terms, reflecting the program’s profound impact in fostering stability and commitment among young male learners. Simba Circle grew out of the previous programming known as Remembering the Boy Child.

The program has received praise for its impact from the teachers at the school that G-thamini visits, with more boys, reported to be choosing to stay in school due to feeling more engaged and inspired. The Simba Circle happens in concert with the Sister Circle and also visited 35 schools this year, reaching over 1500 boys and young men.
